Design and Build
Before contacting an architect who specialises in home extensions, we recommend that you create a brief for your project. This information will help your architect to understand what you want to achieve and how to develop your home extension appropriately:
We recommend MODEL Projects Ltd who specialise in design, budget and timeline management and offer a three-stage process to develop your home extension using 3D software. They are also experienced in permitted development rights, planning permission, building regulations and more to assist you with every element of your home extension project.
Once all plans are in place, our FSG Build Division will be in a position to provide a quotation for all the building works required, allowing us to deliver your home extension project on time, to specification and budget.
Home Extension Types
Our FSG Build Division has experience in constructing different types of home extensions and every project is different in its own way. The four main types of home extensions are:
Your chosen architect will be able to tell you what type of home extension is feasible for your property and help you design the layout to maximise the space available.
Single-storey home extensions are built to increase floor space on the ground floor and depending on whether you have a detached, semi-detached or terrace house a single-storey home extension can be applied to the front, side or rear of the property.
Your home can also be extended at two or three levels to increase floor space significantly. Again, depending on what type of property you have, a two-storey extension can be applied to the front, side or rear of the original build.
Over structure home extensions allow you to increase floor space on the upper level of a property by extending on top of an existing build, such as the garage or an extension previously built. Many homeowners do this to create additional bedrooms, an en-suite bathroom or office space.
Standalone home extensions allow you to extend floor space as a separate entity, which will still be associated with the main build of your property. This is a great option if you want to create office space or an annex with privacy.
